Kite class

Railway Museum

Kites and Eagles went back in time for the day at Didcot Railway Museum. All the children dressed as evacuees and took part in a mock evaucation, They got to tavel on a real steam train (including sitting in first class!) and met mock foster parents at a station. We all enjoyed our time at the museum, which also included a visit to a real 1940's air raid shelter. Miss Murphy and Mrs Holdcroft would like to thank all the parents for their hard work, putting together some amazing evaucee outfits!

Plas Pencelli Residential Trip

IMG_0623.JPGOne of the highlights of this year for the pupils in Brown and Mauve classes was their week-long residential to Plas Pencelli in Wales. Although the weather wasn't brilliant - and we actually saw snow on one of the days! - everyone had an excellent time.

Victorian Britain

Our topic for Autumn term 2008 is Victorian Britain.  We are continuing our topic-based approach to the curriculum which we successfully trialled last year, where pupils have a topic book and work from across the curriculum will be based around the Victorians.  We will also work towards an ‘end-product’ each term, where pupils organise an event to show and share the skills they have learned during their work with an audience of family and other invited guests.  More details about this will follow during the term…

We are not amused!

During the first term of this year, Brown and Mauve classes learned all about life in Victorian Britain in their topic, 'We are not amused!'. As well as looking at the story of Oliver Twist and writing biographies of Queen Victoria and the great Blondin, an amazing Victorian tight-rope walker, we organised an event for parents called 'The Great Exhibition 2008'.

Homework

Homework will be given out from the week commencing 22nd September.

Home learning projects, which we trialled last year, will continue to be given.  Pupils will usually have around a month to complete these extended pieces of work,  and these will be exhibited during our end-of-topic event.

SATs

As I am sure you are aware, all year 6 pupils are required to sit statutory SATs in May.  More information will follow in due course, including a date for an information evening to keep you informed about ways you can help your child prepare for these tests.  The tests will take place between 11th and 15th May 2008.
