NORTHBOURNE CARNIVAL 2009 - FRIDAY 26TH JUNE (5 - 8PM)
We are all really looking forward to our summer barbecue this year. We are opening the evening with a carnival procession, which our artists have been working on with all of our classes and the carnival club. This will be led through the streets around the school, starting at 5pm, and will arrive back on the field around 10 minutes later to officially open the barbecue. It would be great to see all of our pupils taking part in the procession. We would be grateful if children could arrive in their classrooms around 4:40 to prepare.
As well as the barbecue, we are holding our first ever 'Northbourne's got talent!' show; remember to get your entry forms back as soon as possible. Each class will be running their own stall, and there are a range of other events planned to take place during the evening. Entrance this year is free, so we hope to see as many families as possible.
We also need your help!
Do you have a gazebo we could borrow for the evening?
Can you help out with serving food at the barbecue?
Can you be a steward for the carnival procession?
There are sign-up sheets for the barbecue at the office....even if you can only spare a half hour slot, we would be grateful for your help in making this evening a success. If you can provide help with any of these things, please speak to the office, to Mrs. Burr, Mr. Shaughnessy or any of the members of the PTA. We look forward to seeing you there!
In exchange for non-uniform day you are asked to bring a bottle of drink to be collected at the school gate on the morning of Friday 26th June to be used on the bottle tombola stall.
If anybody has any spare old china we could use on the china smashing stall there is a collection box outside the school office.
KITES SWOOP INTO SCHOOL GROUNDS
Volunteers from the RSPB came to talk to Orange, Green, Red, Yellow and Grey class this week. The children sat mesmerized by Mrs Carey's fascinating story about the red kites persecution, extinction and reintroduction into England. Did you know that red kites eat carrion. Although they have a wing span over a metre they only weigh 1kg. The children were pointing to two kites outside on the field when one of them swooped down grabbed something from the grass and soared back up into the sky hotly pursed by an aggressive crow.
THANK YOU
A special thank you must go to Mr David Davis. Mr Davis has counted and batched all of our Tesco vouchers – so far totaling over 30,000!
SPARE CLOTHING
Please can we have any old wellies, sun hats, coats, woolly hats, scarfs, gloves, pants, waterproofs, socks and school uniform for our new classroom. Please bring to Miss Yolland.
Neighbourhood Kids Clubs
Hear ye, hear ye, the Neighbourhood Kids After School Club has now begun and we’re proud to announce that we have gotten a big “thumbs up” from the children!
Sophie says “I like it because I do lots of colouring”, while Dan and Christopher like it because they have other people to play the massive amounts of lego with. Just last week Oliver challenged himself by laying a winding course of falling dominoes which fell spectacularly. Sarah, our supervisor, commented “It’s a great place for the children to come to after a day at school. They can relax and have fun and even a snack with their friends in a safe place.”
Why be bored at home when you could be playing with your friends in our neighbourhood? Don’t just take our word for it, check us out for yourself!
After School Club runs every day of term. Our Summer Day Camp will run weekdays from Monday 20th July through to Friday the 14th of August. With weekly outings to the Northmoor Trust, loads of games, crafts, sports, drama, wacky science, cookery, international games, teambuilding challenges and assault courses we are sure to have something for all to enjoy.
See you on the playground! J
