WELCOME BACK…
…to the start of a brand-new school year. We hope that you all had a relaxing holiday, and that your children have enjoyed meeting their new teachers and started to settle into their new classes. It was lovely to see so many smartly dressed, excited children come back through the gates on Thursday!
Lots of work has taken place in school over the holiday. We are really pleased to have our new classroom up-and-running, and the refurbished Key Stage 1 boys and Key Stage 2 toilets are almost complete. We are all working hard to learn the new, bird-themed classroom names across the school, but we are slowly making progress with these!…
We would like to welcome a number of new members of staff to our team. Miss Murphy is joining us to teach year 5 and 6 in Eagle class, and Mrs. Dyer is our new teacher for Swans, our Foundation Stage children. Miss Roper and Mrs. Hubbard-Cummins join us as teaching assistants, and Mrs. Wyard is our new, part-time reading recovery teacher. We are lucky enough to be only the 4th school in Oxfordshire to receive funding for such a post, and Mrs. Wyard will be leading this exciting new programme which will involve some of our Key Stage 1 children. We would also like to congratulate Miss Arrowsmith on her marriage over the summer, which means she is now Mrs. Holdcroft.
We are currently arranging dates and times for you to informally meet your child’s new class teacher, to hear about the work that will be covered this year and some of the more practical arrangements, such as PE days. All of our teachers are always happy to answer any questions about school, so please do speak to them before or after the school day if you are unsure of anything. We all look forward to working with you to ensure your child has a happy and successful year.
CLUBS
Clubs will start in the week beginning 21st September, and more details about these will be included in next week’s newsletter.
Gardening Club is the only club to begin earlier to (hopefully!) take advantage of the weather before winter begins. This will start next Wednesday, 9th September, and run from 3 pm to 4 pm. The final gardening club session will be on Wednesday 18th November. To cover the cost of purchasing equipment, compost, bulbs and seeds, this term we are asking for a voluntary contribution of 50p per week, to be paid as a lump-sum of £5 at the start of this term. This should be given into your child’s class teacher in a labelled envelope in the usual way. If your child would like to take part in gardening club but the contribution creates a problem, please pop into the office to speak to Mrs. Rowley.
SWIMMING LESSONS
Kite and Eagle classes start their swimming lessons next Thursday, 10th September. Children in these classes will need a swimming costume, hat, towel and a bag. Please note that goggles can only be worn in the pool if the child has a note to say a doctor has recommended these be worn. Please speak to Mrs. Holdcroft, Miss Murphy or Mrs. Reynolds if you have any further questions.
SCHOOL DINNERS
School dinners currently cost £1.85 a day (£9.25 for a whole week). This should be in an envelope labelled with the child’s name, class and the days they will be having a school dinner, and handed in to the class teacher on Monday. Any cheques should be made payable to Northbourne School. Please call in to see Mrs. Kent in the office if you have any questions.
EQUALITY PLAN AND EQUALITY SCHEME
The governors have recently written a draft Equality Plan and Equality Scheme to ensure that all pupils have equal opportunities regardless of their circumstances. If you would like to comment on the contents of this document please ask for a copy in the office or look on our website.
