MEET AND GREET

It was lovely to see so many parents and relatives pop in to speak to teachers during our new-style meet and greet session on Tuesday. We hope this more informal approach gave you the chance to chat to staff and take a copy of the class newsletter, and was a helpful way of giving you information about the term ahead. If you were unable to attend due to other commitments, the class newsletter will be sent home with your child so please hunt this out of book-bags and rucksacks! We welcome any feedback about this way of passing on information; please speak to Mr. Shaughnessy or Mrs. Burr with any comments.

We would also like to thank the parents who came to the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 ‘learning through play’ meeting on Wednesday. It was great to see so many people come along to find out more about the way our youngest children are being taught.

TARGET ACHIEVED!

Children all across the school are working hard to meet their writing targets at the moment. This term, our targets focus on punctuation – from using full stops and capital letters correctly for our youngest children, through to using brackets, dashes and semi-colons by the end of Key Stage 2.

A huge well done has to go to Matthew in Year 6, who has already met his target in an outstanding piece of writing he did at home, called ‘Panune and the golden sword’…

“As the shimmering, light orange sun set below the rocky Greek mountains, the Persian army stealthily crept along the Spartan territory. They were led by Perseus II, the longest-lasting Persian king of the millennium. He was not as dashing a figure as he used to be – what used to be swift, brown locks were now a few thinning pieces of skull-white hair, what used to be brown, muscular arms were now withered-up and skinny.”

Congratulations on such exceptional work Matthew!

The following clubs will be running this term, starting the week beginning 21st September. Please speak to the member of staff running the club to obtain a permission slip if you are interested in your child taking part.

Every week, we will be completing running activities, plus focusing on a particular athletic event such as throwing or jumping. The competitions are open for year 3-6, however any keen year 2's who would like to start training for next year are more than welcome to attend. If you are interested please collect a form from the noticeboard outside Kite class.

BICYCLES OR SCOOTERS

Please remind your child that for health and safety reasons if they have a bicycle or scooter they should not ride it on school grounds but instead should walk pushing it.

BREAKFAST CLUB

How would your children like to start the day a different way? Come and have breakfast with their friends, then play, and have fun. We have different activities on a daily basis. Mondays and Wednesdays children have the opportunity to use the computers. Fridays we use the hall for activities such as badminton, table tennis, indoor tennis, skittles and parachute games. The children can also choose from a wide variety of activities also available on a daily basis, such as art/craft, games, construction toys etc. We also provide sand/water play and playdough. Occasionally we do cooking.

Children can come for one taster session costing £1.00 per child. For more information please contact Miss Powdrill in Wren class.
