OPERATION SMILE

The school council, through discussion with the rest of the school, decided that we would support the Blue Peter Operation Smile appeal as one of our charities this year. Blue Peter are asking for schools to make surgical gowns for use in India during operations to correct cleft lip or cleft palate. To make these gowns, we need any old, unwanted T-shirts you may have at home to be sent into school. Making the T-shirts into gowns is easy and quick, and each teacher will organise class time for this to be done. We will include the instructions for making gowns in a later newsletter, should you want to follow these with any younger children you have at home.

Adult sizes are perfect for gowns that will be used with children; however, any old T-shirts you have would help us reach our total. We are aiming to make 100 gowns before the end of term. Thanks to the children who are running this project and will be updating the school totaliser to show our progress; please speak to Mr. Shaughnessy if you have any questions, and he will point you to the best school council member to talk to!

KS1 PLAY - THE SHINIEST STAR

The KS1 nativity ‘The Shiniest Star’ is on Tuesday 8th December at 9.30am and 6.00pm. Tickets will go on sale on Monday 23rd November from the office and will be limited initially to two per family. From Monday 30th November extra tickets can be purchased. Your child should have brought home a costume list; please see your child’s class teacher with any costume queries. We ask for babies and very young children not to attend the performance as they can be easily distracted. If you are unable to arrange child-care, please let your child’s class teacher know before Wednesday 25th November, and we will organise a crèche. Please note that we will not be able to accommodate any child not booked into the crèche in advance.

ILLNESS

We have had a number of illnesses amongst children in school this week. As doctors do not now test specifically for swine flu, it is difficult to determine which of these have been colds, which have been normal winter flu, and whether any have been swine flu. However, it seems likely that a small number of cases have been swine flu. Please keep your child at home and seek advice from your GP or NHS direct if you feel your child has several of the following symptoms: fever, fatigue, lack of appetite, coughing, sore throat, pain in muscles and joints, headache and chills.

Further information is included in the leaflet that was sent home at the start of term. We have spare copies available at reception if you would like to take one.

RESULTS JUST IN…

Last Thursday, our football team played a match against Manor. However, due to some horrible weather, it was really muddy which meant that we only played 15 minutes of the second half and the score by the end was 6 – 2 to Manor. The team would like to thank Mr. Woods for organising the match and the parents who took us and cheered us on.

SWIMMING WITH SHARKS...

Following on from his sky-dive, Father James is now doing a shark dive to raise funds for St. Peters. We have sponsor forms in the office if you would like to contribute...and I am sure you will all join us in wishing Father James lots of luck!

CHRISTMAS DINNER

This year our whole school Christmas dinner is on Tuesday 15th December. If you would like your child to have Christmas lunch on this day, please send £1.85 in an envelope labelled with your child’s name and class on by Friday 4th December. As the Christmas lunch is on Tuesday of this week, there will not be a roast on Wednesday 16th.

ATHLETICS CLUB

Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control there will be no athletics club next Thursday. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

DOGS

Please remember that for health and safety reasons dogs are not allowed on the school premises.

Christmas is around the corner and there's loads of fun to be had! With oodles and oodles of festive activities to do at Christmas Camp children are sure to use up that holiday energy giving adults even more time to prepare for the holidays (and peace of mind that their children are having fun in a safe environment). Choose from “Deck the Halls Day” Monday, “NK Day of Caring” Tuesday or our “Fireside Pyjama Party Day” Wednesday or join us for the lot! All children ages 3-11 are welcome!

Neighbourhood Kids is a joint childcare venture of schools in Didcot. We’re partnering for the positive!

Pick up more information and booking forms by visiting the school office or downloading them from our website (www.northbourne-school.org.uk) and return your completed forms to the office by NOVEMBER 15th as the Christmas Camp will only run if there is sufficient demand.
