GOOD LUCK MRS ROWLEY!

Mrs. Rowley, our School Manager, leaves us on Thursday next week to start her maternity leave. She does an amazing job in the office, leading our finance, health and safety and site maintenance work. Many of you will have come into contact with Mrs. Rowley, either opening the door, answering the phone or processing any Pathfinder payments, and I am sure you will agree that she is always efficient, friendly and helpful. We would like to wish Mrs. Rowley and her family lots of luck, and we hope to see her return to Northbourne soon.

NETBALL NEWS

Congratulations to the netball team who drew 3 all against Willowcroft last night. The team played fantastically well, with determination and spirit. Thanks to Miss Hill for organising the match, and to the friends and family who came to support the team.

CAN YOU HELP?

Next week, Kites and Eagles will be making bunting as part of their World War 2 topic. We would therefore appreciate any donations of fabric or sewing thread.

SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN

We take the safety of all children at our school extremely seriously. In order to enable us safeguard everyone at Northbourne, we follow a comprehensive set of policies and procedures covering a range of issues including child protection, health and safety and first-aid. This set of policies is now available for you to look at either on our website or in paper form from the office. Please speak to Mr. Shaughnessy if you have any questions about these, or other safeguarding issues.

HOLLYWOOD, HERE WE COME!

Starting this term, we will be running a Film Club in school. This will be a chance for your child to experience a variety of films in a safe, happy and structured setting. This will take place on Friday afternoons, straight after school.

Film Club aims to inspire children by making a wide range of films available to them. These include big cinema releases, as well as smaller films which they may not have heard of or seen. We are able to choose the films we show through a large database on the Film Club website (www.filmclub.org), and will be using this site to submit and read reviews and enter exciting competitions.

A Film Club Crew of older pupils will be leading the organisation of this club with me, and will choose films in sets of 2 or 3. Once we have decided which films will be shown, the Crew will send home a reply slip (this will usually be part of the weekly newsletter). On this, you can indicate which films your child would like to stay and watch – this could be all or just some of the films, depending on what we are showing and the date. Places will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, and we will let you know which films your child will be able to stay for. As with all clubs at Northbourne, we ask that you keep us informed of any occasions where your child has been allocated a place but won’t be able to attend; this allows us to ensure that all pupils are safe.

Normally we will choose to show films that are suitable for your child’s age; however, from time-to-time we may choose to watch a film rated PG (Parental Guidance – general viewing but some scenes may be unsuitable for young children). The certificate of the film will be shown on the reply slip, to enable you to use this to help you decide whether you would like your child to stay for that particular showing. We intend to run some showings for Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 children only, some for Key Stage 2 children only, and some which will be open to the whole school. The Film Club Crew will also organise special showings, such as inviting grandparents or other relatives, depending on the film being shown. Please note that younger children must be able to sit for the length of the film (indicated on the reply slip) in order to be able to stay.

Our first 3 films are shown below, along with their certificates and time children will need to be collected. Please indicate which you would like your child to stay for and return it to your child’s class teacher. You will then be sent the slip back, showing which films your child has a place for.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and we look forward to seeing you at some of our screenings!
