CAKES!

Puffin and Swan Classes, along with Stepping Stones, are holding a cake sale on Wednesday 10th February to help raise money to buy a set of large, wooden outdoor bricks. Cake donations from any children and parents would be very gratefully received - please take any contributions to Stepping Stones on the morning of the cake sale. These will be sold from 3pm from Stepping Stones’ room – we hope to see you there.

HUBBLE, BUBBLE, TOIL AND TROUBLE

Hawk class will be staging their performance of Macbeth on 9th February at 6pm. Tickets will be on sale at the office from Monday, priced £1.50 for adults and £1 for children. As we know that many parents of older children work during the day, we have again decided not to stage a performance during the afternoon. If this causes a problem for anyone, please speak to Mr. Shaughnessy or Mr. Collett, and we will make alternative arrangements. Please also let us know if you would like a crèche place for any younger children – these need to be booked in advance to allow us to organise staffing.

ATHLETICS TOURNAMENT UPDATE

The year 5/6 athletics tournament which was disrupted by the snow has now been rescheduled. This will now take place at Didcot Girls’ School on 23rd February from 9.00 am to 11.30 am. All the arrangements from the first attempt at taking part in this still stand; please speak to Mrs. Holdcroft if you would like to clarify any of the details.

SWIMMING

Falcon and Hawk classes start their swimming lessons next Thursday, 4th February. The children will need a swimming costume, hat, towel and a bag. Kites and Eagles have now finished the swimming part of their PE curriculum for this school year.

DRAMA WORKSHOPS

This week, Robins, Wrens, Nightingales and Owls all took part in a series of drama workshops which involved them creating a wide variety of different characters through movement. The children joined in enthusiastically and even the youngest children were able to describe the characters that they had created. A big thank you to Cornerstone for running this session, which pupils (and adults!) thoroughly enjoyed.

IS YOUR CHILD A BUDDING BUG HUNTER?!

The museum of natural history in Oxford is looking for children to make a short presentation about an insect related topic on 20th February. The age categories are 9 and under and 10-13, 14. If you require more information, please speak to Mrs. McIntyre or look at either of the websites: www.oum.ox.ac.uk or www.amentsoc.org/bugclub.

BOOK WEEK

Monday 8th March will see the start of this year’s Book Week at Northbourne. Following on from the enjoyable events of last year, when Ian Whybrow came to talk to all classes about his Harry and the Dinosaurs series of books, we are currently organising what we hope will be an exciting series of events to generate enthusiasm for reading amongst all of our pupils. So far we have booked an illustrator to come to meet us, and the mayor of Didcot will be calling in to look at our work and officially open our library now our books have all been electronically catalogued. We will also be running events for parents and family members, and look forward to lots of you getting involved – more details to follow over the next few weeks!
