ARE YOU AN EXTREME READER?!
To help us celebrate Book Week, we would like to create a display of photographs of children and family members reading a book...in the most funny or adventurous places possible! Do you read at the top of your slide in the garden? Hanging from your climbing frame? Hiding under your duvet? Or maybe whilst flying through space (with the help of some digital trickery, obviously!) Please send your best photos of you and your family snapped in different situations into school and we will display them around the corridors. There will be prizes for the funniest, most extreme reading pictures given out during our special assembly with the mayor of Didcot, who will be visiting to see our Book Week work on Monday 15th February.
RE-ARRANGED CLUBS
Due to staff being away from school to accompany the year 6 residential visit, Swimming Club and Film Club will not take place next week. Swimming club will resume the following week at normal time, and more details about the next Film Club showing are overleaf. There will be no astronomy or homework club on Thursday of the following week (11th March), due to staff training. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
WIN A TREAT FOR MUM (AND THE REST OF THE FAMILY!...)
The Apple Cart are running a competition to win a meal for 4 on mother’s day. To enter, simply draw the best picture you can of Mum and drop it into the school office before next Friday (5th March). There are 2 age groups, 5 and under and 6 – 12, and entries need to be labelled to show name, address, contact telephone number, date of birth and school. An entry form which you can attach to the back of the drawing is on our website. Happy drawing and good luck!
DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY!
Come and join us at our Spring discos on Thursday 18th March. As well as our usual glow sticks, we will also be selling hot dogs to give you enough energy to keep on dancing! The disco for children in Foundation Stage through to Y3 will take place from 5 – 6pm, and the Y4 and older disco will follow at 6:20 – 7:30. Tickets will be on sale through the office soon – watch out for more details.
SOFTWARE 4 STUDENTS
We have recently registered with the Software 4 Students scheme, which allows pupils at Northbourne to buy Microsoft Office and other software at greatly reduced prices; Microsoft Office, for example, can be bought for £50, rather than £480 which it would cost in the shops. Please visit www.software4students.co.uk if you need to buy new software and would like to save some money.
FREE SCHOOL MEALS
Just a reminder that if your child would like sandwiches instead of a hot dinner, the office need to be notified which days sandwiches are required on the Monday at the start of the week. To help the kitchen with their planning, the note should also include the choice of filling in the sandwich. Thanks for your help with this.
SPRING FLOWERS
Could you please make sure that you avoid the grass at the side of the main path into the playground at the moment; daffodils are beginning to grow and it would be a shame if they are all broken down before they flowered. They look lovely when they are out!
HEADLICE
There seem to be some cases of headlice in school at the moment. Could you please check your child’s hair carefully, and use an appropriate treatment if you find any lice or eggs.
FILM CLUB
Our next Film Club showing, The Iron Giant, will be on Friday 19th March...just complete the slip below and return it to your child’s class teacher if you would like a place. Please note that Y5 and 6 Film Club Crew will not need to stay for the club until this next showing.
