Victorian Britain

Our topic for Autumn term 2008 is Victorian Britain.  We are continuing our topic-based approach to the curriculum which we successfully trialled last year, where pupils have a topic book and work from across the curriculum will be based around the Victorians.  We will also work towards an ‘end-product’ each term, where pupils organise an event to show and share the skills they have learned during their work with an audience of family and other invited guests.  More details about this will follow during the term…

In Geography we will be learning about the British Empire; in literacy we will be looking at one of the most famous Victorian novels, Oliver Twist, and writing biographies of famous figures, and in Design Technology we will be making moving Victorian toys.  RE will focus on some of the famous Victorian reformers, including Barnado, and the motivations of these people.  PE, music and maths will be taught separately.

These are just a few examples of some of the work we will be doing.  We hope you will be able to share this with us as the term progresses, and share more of our Victorian-themed learning.
